Caridad Cangas-Planas, Esq.

Mrs. Cangas-Planas is a committed legal professional with a strong foundation in academic excellence and a deep passion for justice. She began her journey at Miami Dade College, where she earned a Bachelor's degree in Criminal Justice. Early in her career, she worked as a paralegal, gaining valuable experience and a deeper understanding of the legal field.

Motivated by a desire to make a meaningful impact, she pursued further education and obtained her law degree from St. Thomas University College of Law, graduating with honors. During law school, she was actively involved in extracurricular activities, including serving on the boards of the Elder Law Society and the Cuban American Association.

These experiences fueled her dedication to advocating for the rights of underserved and marginalized communities. Her involvement in these organizations sharpened her skills in legal research, advocacy, and client representation.

Now, as a practicing attorney, Mrs. Cangas-Planas remains committed to the principles of integrity, diligence, and compassion. Her dedication to championing the "little guy" and her relentless pursuit of justice make her an invaluable asset to her clients.

Miguel E. Planas, Esq.

Managing Immigration Attorney

Mr. Miguel Planas is a member of the firm’s Immigration Department, where he practices Immigration and Nationality Law. He represents individuals and families in a broad range of immigration matters before the United States Citizenship and Immigration Services, the Immigration Courts, and the Board of Immigration Appeals.



Mr. Planas attended the Inter American University of Puerto Rico, where he earned a bachelor’s degree in Business Administration with a concentration in Management before obtaining his Juris Doctor. During law school, he was a member of the Moot Court Trial Competition Team, representing his law school in national competitions and developing extensive skills in litigation, oral advocacy, legal research, and persuasive writing. He also served on the board of the Student Federal Bar Association.

Mr. Planas was recognized by Pro Bono, Inc. of the Puerto Rico Bar Association for his zealous advocacy on behalf of low-income families in debt-collection proceedings and family-law disputes. He also participated in legal-education seminars designed to provide underserved families with greater access to information about their legal rights and available remedies.

Throughout his immigration practice, Mr. Planas has successfully represented clients seeking protection and lawful status in the United States. His practice includes affirmative and defensive asylum applications, removal-defense proceedings, bond matters, family-based immigration, adjustment of status, waivers, humanitarian relief, and representation before USCIS. He regularly appears in Immigration Court, where he represents clients in contested hearings and immigration trials involving asylum, withholding of removal, protection under the Convention Against Torture, cancellation of removal, adjustment of status, and other forms of relief from removal.

Mr. Planas also represents clients in appellate proceedings before the Board of Immigration Appeals, preparing complex legal briefs and challenging adverse decisions issued by Immigration Judges. His work requires a careful command of immigration statutes, federal regulations, administrative precedent, and federal appellate law. He approaches each case with thorough preparation, strategic advocacy, and a strong commitment to protecting his clients’ rights.

Mr. Planas is deeply committed to the immigrant community and to the constitutional principles of fairness, due process, and equal protection. He understands that immigration proceedings can profoundly affect a person’s freedom, family, livelihood, and future. Carolina R. Blanco

Intern/Paralegal

Carolina is a third-year law student at Nova Southeastern University Shepard Broad College of Law, where she has developed a strong interest in gaining practical experience across multiple areas of law.

Her legal experience includes a judicial internship with the Honorable Judge Bowman at the Broward County Courthouse, where she observed court proceedings and trials and gained valuable insight into courtroom procedure, trial advocacy, and judicial decision-making.

She currently serves as a Legal Intern with Cangas-Planas Law, PLLC, where she assists with matters involving immigration law and estate planning while continuing to strengthen her legal research, writing, and client-service skills.

In addition to her legal studies, Carolina is a Florida Licensed Realtor®, providing her with a unique perspective on real estate transactions and the intersection between real estate and the law.
